Christmas Day Photos

Hello all! Happy 'Day After' Christmas to everyone! I truly hope everyone had a glorious Christmas Day! I just thought I would post some holiday photos from our day. As you can see, the princess dress up costumes that I bought during the last Halloween season was a huge hit! I bought Cinderella and Sleeping Beauty, with shoes and crowns........she has not had them off in 2 days! Also, the Bendaroos she SOOOOOO wanted were a HUGE hit from Auntie Vicki, cousin Jordan and Nathan!

There are obviously too many presents to list all that she got, but she loved them all.......it just took ALL day to get them opened. I have to admit, she was not all that interested in the present opening hype.....weird! She was just very ho-hum about the whole day. My husband and I were baffled!

We had a great time at Papa Jim's house on Christmas Eve. Madelyn loves all of her family! She was very happy to see all of her cousins. Her cousin Shayla is 5 months older than her and just celebrated her 4th birthday last Sunday. Madelyn was in the hospital most of last weekend and went to Shayla's party, but truly was not herself.......still recovering I think. So seeing them all a couple of days later, she was back to old self!

Enjoy these photos and I hope you all had a great holiday season! Take care and be safe!

My husband has a "home" on MySpace and has been on me to get one up for me and my shop........I know, I know, I know...it is supposed to be a great marketing tool......I just could NOT understand the MySpace thing. Please, give me some hints, ideas, critiques, or just plain help on the site! I have got to head out the door and go to the "day" job at the senior center!

Happy Thanksgiving!

We, as in me, Tim and Maddy, will be heading to Oklahoma for the Thanksgiving holiday to see Papa Mel and Patty. When I return I can NOT wait to tell you about my weekend at the craft fair in Cape Girardeau Missouri!!!!! I'll give you a hint......I saw a lot of green.....if ya know what I mean!????!

I have put my shop on vacation while we are away. Business is booming, so it was a tough decision to make, but I can not spend quality time with my family always thinking of going to check my shop or convo's! So, I apologize for any inconvenience. It will reopen on Monday December 1st!

Happy Thanksgiving everyone! Take care, be safe, and above all.........be "Thankful" for all the great things in your life!

Leslie

Welcome

I am a wife, mom, and a registered nurse to the community. I am also a self taught jewelry artist that was inspired to take up jewelry design after my father taught me the 'basics' of bead stringing in 1999. I was HOOKED! After my daughter was born in 2005, I found that jewelry design became a necessity to get us through our first Christmas holiday season by making jewelry as gifts for family and friends! One of those friends worked at our local county health department, and soon the jewelry orders started to fly in. I was then commissioned by the WIC department at the same health department to create a piece of jewelry for their breastfeeding clinic......and a business was born! I found Etsy through a postcard my mother picked up at an art show. I opened my Etsy account in March of 2008, but did not list my first item until September 2, 2008! Cold feet I guess! I also started my blog in March of 2008. This blog is committed to showcasing my work, featuring other artists, promoting Etsy, offering parenting information, and ALL about trying to have fun in the process!

Remembrance Day. Veteran's Day.

To my US, Canadian, New Zealand, British and other friends,

"They shall grow not old,
as we that are left grow old;
Age shall not weary them,
nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
We will remember them."

When Someone Crushes Your Dream

http://www.dailyjournalonline.com/articles/2008/10/28/news/doc4907215e39fab572558509.txt

The above link and article might give you all an inside look to what is going on here on the homefront. My husband and I attended our first City Council meeting on Monday night. We went in regards to a letter that we received Friday afternoon at out home. It was sent anonymously from someone in our subdivision. Our contractor never informed any of us. It just so happened that a neighbor was walking in the neighborhood and saw a very small sign posted on the empty lots where the large construction equipment was parked. Very well hidden. The sign was to announce the hearing for the rezoning of our subdivision for low-income rental duplexes.

We have lived in our new home for only 13 months. It is our VERY FIRST real home. We have lived with family, rented low income housing and bought and lived in a double wide trailer for years while I attended nursing school. To say that this house is our dream come true is SUCH an understatement! It is not JUST our dream, it is our investment, my daughters future and where we chose to live and raise our family.

I know that our builder/contractor is having financial trouble due to the economics of our country, but who isn't? All of the homeowners in this development had a dream, just like our builder did. I am very sorry that he is having $$$ problems, but you do not give up on your dream of a great, beautiful, special and really different development when times get tough. He should not give up on his dream that he had for this area.

It is like making us homeowners choose the lesser of two evils. Either 700 square foot low-income rented duplexes, in a housing development that the LOWEST square footage built here now is 1750, OR he builds stripped down, 1400 sq foot, no garage, gravel driveway houses, that if he does not sell he will rent anyway.

I don't know. I can't cry any more tears that are just useless anyway. I am too exhausted.

From the feelings that I got at the council meeting, it may not pass. But, this is just one battle. I can not see him giving up, or letting his business go bankrupt. I think this is going to be a messy fight.

There is much more to the story than this too. I forgot to tell you that 3 of the larger houses out here are owned by his subcontractors that could use some work too, so not everyone out here is against this new development. But most are and a good majority spoke at the meeting.

Thanks for listening to my woes of the day. Sorry to bore you all and bum you out too! Keep us in your thoughts please! Have a great week and Happy Halloween! I hope to pop back in and post some pictures of our Halloween! Take care!

Warmly,
Leslie

What Have I Done???????

Annual Christmas Arts and Crafts Extravaganza - Cape Girardeau Art

Hello! Just wanted to drop in and let you all in on a little information. I am not sure how it happened, but a friend of mine wanted to participate in a juried arts and craft show, so she asked me if I wanted to share a booth and I said yes......just like that. Next thing I know I am filling out papers, typing artist statements, taking pictures, sending money, interviewing on the phone.......and just like that, I am accepted and in booth number 15 at the Show Me Center.

I guess I should have found out more about this event before accepting.....ya think? Because this is apparently one of the nations LARGEST shows. I was working on a Saturday at a health fair when my friend asked me to share a booth and I just said "yes"....without thinking. And now, I have a 10 x 10 booth all to myself.......and I am a little FREAKED....yeah that is the word.

I have been frantically buying supplies, display items, tablecloths, boxes, bags, etc....

Now, I have to somehow figure out how much jewelry to make. What kind to make....more earrings, more bracelets........ahhhh, the stress!!

Anyway, if there are any of you near or in the area, please come and support this crazy and nervous artist........did I mention that I have NEVER done anything like this. Not even a craft show.....
So, here is the information for those who are interested. If you need more information, just let me know! Wish me luck, send love, verbal flowers......Thanks!!!!

Halloween Decor.....Take 2

Hello again all! Yes! Here I am again....I know, twice in 2 days.......can you believe it? I should be concentrating on the art show coming up November 22 & 23 that I am participating in, but instead I am having too much fun trying out all of the Halloween projects from The Craft Crow blog.

Yesterday evening Tim, Maddy and I made these ghosts. I had left over ribbon from the Halloween banner and instead of using monofilament and hanging them horizontal as shown in the instructions, I came up with the design above.......again, we make do!

Tim made his own design too, and I gave Maddy a print-out for her to color, but she was more interested in the play-doh after coloring the first ghost.
Here is my husband Tim's design. Actually, I messed up the first set of ghosts, this set, and he made these instead of throwing them away. Those eyes are tricky to cut out without a craft knife and I did not like how they turned out, so I started over. He outlined the eyes in black and then just started drawing on them after Maddy got her hands on the marker (see ghost "B"). Oh well, when all else fails make lemonade!

My next project is to finish the book sculptures I have been working on.....strangely enough also listed on The Crafty Crow. I saw them on Etsy long ago, and since I am an avid reader fell in love with them at once and I new I could make some for myself.........sorry Etsy sellers, I want to do this one myself instead of buying them.......I apologize for not supporting you all on this one!!!

I hope you all enjoy more of the decor here on the home front. It has been so much, SUPER FUN this year with Maddy! I tell ya, they just get better every day..........remind me I said this when I come on here and vent about her on one of her bad days!!!

Enjoy, and again, send some of your holiday pics to me of your own decor, and if you want I will do a post on my readers holiday crafts and link your blog too, if you have one!

Go forth and create!

Warmly,
Leslie

Halloween Decor.....Take 1

Hello all! It is not my day to work in the store and I did not have any senior centers scheduled today, so I kept my girl home today for a "little mommy and me" time. One of the items on our agenda was to make this Halloween banner you see here! I found it online HERE yesterday at work and we quickly whipped it up this morning. I could NOT find ANY ric-rac at the store yesterday, but the cute thin black and white checked ribbon looks nice (I know you can't see it, but it is rather cute). I would have rather had the ric-rac for the texture and design, but we make do huh? I also did not print it out on card stock as suggested, that is up to you.
I think for Thanksgiving we will do one as well, and let Maddy color them with traditional fall/seasonal colors. I will post that here when the time comes. Also, if you browse a little more on her site you will find OTHER free tutorials and patterns. I am kinda excited to print and hang the holiday dangles come Christmas.
Well, enjoy! Let me see some pictures of your great banners you make with this wonderful freebie. And post some comments on more ideas of what we all can use these banner letters for....holidays, birthdays, baby showers, etc.....and of course comment on what we all could do to "color the up" a little!
Thanks! Have a great day. GO FORTH AND CREATE!!!! All of you......that means you too!
Warmly,
Leslie

What I Am Loving Today......

I am loving my new piece of furniture that my mom brought to me all the way from Iowa, where she was visiting her friend recently.....we put it together this weekend. I think that it is BEAUTIFUL, it finishes and completes my little entryway. It is just the perfect size and I am completely in love with it. Is it possible to love a piece of furniture? I think so.And these lovelies! My wonderful mother, the estate sale queen, also came to visit and had these fantastic handmade, lined drapes. 4 "Long" and 4 "Short", as we call them. All for $35.00. Yup, you saw it correctly! $35! What a steal! The Long set is hung on the dining room windows.....and that is only 2 of them. There are 2 more!!! One of the Short ones is hung on the kitchen window and we had to fold it 3 times to get it to look similar to a valance.....so really it is three times as long as in the picture.....and there are 3 more of them also! I think I need more black clips and hang more to make both windows look fuller, but it is a start. Oh, and like I said they are lined in the little black check you see at the top....they are HEAVY and oh so cool! Plus, I can not believe that the Long set are the perfect length! How lucky was that? Thank you Mom! You are awesome as always!I painted the frames on these pictures. They had this old 80's gold frame on them. I have been wanting to do this for a long time, but was meeting resistance from the man in the house.....who will go nameless to protect the innocent. I wish I had a before picture to show the difference. The closest I have is this post here. You can barely see the frame in the picture with all of the cards on the mantel. I have to admit that they look so much better painted. Well, of course they do you say? I was right you say? I thought so, but let's not tell the man OK? You WANT to tell the man? Well then PLEASE leave a comment on your opinion on the new black frames and how much better they look painted. Not to rub it in or anything. Yes......I met with A WHOLE LOT of resistance here, can you tell?

And here we have a picnic that my baby made with all of her best friends. I KNOW she is not a baby....geesh........I don't want to talk about it OK? I just love how Nala has a piece of meat in front of her.....cute little carnivore. And the "girls" all have tea in front of them. All of the food groups are represented here and so is the food chain! I don't' know, maybe this is only something a mommy could love. Madelyn will be 3 and a half this month.....*sigh*.....she is so big. She is shooting up in height. She got out of the tub last night and there she was warming up in front of the fireplace in all of her rudy-tudy-nudiness and all I could see was these LONG legs...she is no longer a toddler....she is a real little girl now.......I really don't want to talk about it.......

And last, the beautiful, long-lashed princess in the tub making sudsy hair-dos. She had so much fun. She kept looking at herself in the shiny tub-drain and laughing that great belly laugh. The laugh that makes her have the hiccups afterwards, just like when she was an infant. Here is one thing that I am loving everyday and not just today!

Enjoy!

Leslie

And The Winner Is.......

Shadesongs!!!!!!

Who wrote:

"Hi, first, love your shop. I see you are a fan of hollow lampwork beads. I adore them, but I am greedy, I don't share well with them! I am also a nurse, I work on a dementia unit..weekends. I was just thinking today about the balance between nursing and designing. And have my fingers crossed as I would be honored to wear your ring! Thank you, Jerry and my shop is under shadesongs and you can reach me at shadesongs at aol.com or through etsy! Have a great night"

Congratulations!!! I am SO excited for you! And a BIG THANK YOU to everyone who participated in this giveaway! You ALL have touched me by your wonderful comments. I really can NOT express into words what your comments mean to me! Truly!!

I will be contacting the winner to get the birthstones need to make this beautiful ring! But, in the mean time I want to announce something VERY FRUSTRATING!!!

My supplier that I have purchased the birthstone rondelles from is no longer carrying the September Sapphire in Sterling Silver, only Gold AND the December birthstone rondelles apparently were a limited edition color and they have suggested us buyers use a different color. Ok, so, the December issue is not REALLY a problem because I have looked at the new color and it actually seems to be the birthstone that matches BETTER than what the supplier was selling in the first place. Make sense? Clear as mud? So, my big problem is the September birthstones........I am in the process of trying to find a new supplier. I thought I found some and actually purchased a couple to see if they were anything like what I was using already and of course not, NO they are TOTALLY different! Crud! I will keep on looking and buying....in the mean time I will use the stash I have, find new homes for the September stones I am buying and NOT liking and well, just keep trucking along!!!

Sorry for the rant and to lay that all out on you all, I am just a little frustrated that I have been selling these rings for over 3 years here at home and never had a problem.......I open an Etsy shop and NOW there is a problem......ah! There I go again. SORRY!!!

You all have a great day and week and again CONGRATULATIONS to our winner! WOO HOO!

Warmly,
Leslie

It's A Giveaway!!! Yay!!!

Yes! It is my first Giveaway! YEAH!!!! I am giving away 1 custom Mother's Ring!!! They are made from 0.925 Sterling Silver and Swarovski Crystal Rondelles. All strung on professional no-fray elastic cord. Great for those with hand ailments, like Arthritis, or just those who suffer from any form of swelling. Great even for moms-to-be who have that pesky swelling due to fluid......I did not say weight gain!!!!

Here is the plan.........Go to my Etsy Shop, take a look around, come back here and post a comment about things you see in my shop. Anything you want....your likes, dislikes, questions, ideas, critiques.......ANYTHING! I am up for it. Just make sure that there is a way for me to get a hold of you and of course your name. This post will stay up for the rest of this week and over the weekend. Monday I will use one of those random number generators and pick the winner. I will post the winner and their comment here with a HUGE congratulatory message and then of course get together with the winner via email and discuss the ring. The ring can be for the winner, or they can use it as a gift for the holidays......they can even just pick out some colorful stones if they do not have any children or grandchildren. It is the WINNERS choice!

PLEASE head on over to Punky N Munky and take a look at Wendy's blog!!! Wendy sent some great questions over to me....I answered, to the best of my ability, and sent them back. She will be posting that interview very soon on her blog! An insiders look into me and my Etsy shop! Oh what tales I can spin.....

I actually met Wendy when she made a pair of custom hair clippies for Madelyn. They are the GREATEST ribbon sculpture clips EVER! Madeyln actually wears one and uses the others as little dolls to play with. Check out Wendy's Etsy Shop! You will NOT be disappointed. Oh, and Maddy's choice of sculpture clippies happened to be the "baddies"......The Wicked Queen from Snow White and Maleficent from Sleeping Beauty......I wonder what that means? Anyone?

Good Luck to all of you........since this is my first giveaway, if I forget anything or if you have any questions, I will be back in many times to check the progress! Again, please checkout the links and sites above....you will really enjoy them!

Have a great week! Take care!

We Are All In This Together

Happy Fall Y'All

Happy first day of Fall to everyone! Oohhh, this is my FAVORITE time of year! We have already used the fireplace a few times, I have already made a HUGE stockpot of homemade vegetable soup with cornbread muffins AND my daughter made artwork on the kitchen floor using my fall leaves cupcake liners......those are her words by the way....."artwork". Guess how long we had to leave them smack-dab in the middle of the kitchen floor......*sigh*. The things we do for our babies! You KNOW we were proud parents, giving high-fives all around, just exclaiming at what a wonderfully talented artist she was.......and then we had breakfast!

I made a couple of new jewelry designs and posted them to my shop. I also got out some supplies to DESTASH my stash and posted them as well. I started 3 new jewelry designs, finished others (they are waiting for pictures and posting) and edited and re-posted new pictures of some designs already in my shop. OH! Big news! Thursday night I made my first online sale from my shop! Thank you Megan!!!! I sold a pair of earrings that I had just posted that day! It was an incredible feeling......I was so nervous! I think I almost forgot that the whole point was TO SELL my designs! I sat there thinking....oh my gosh...I sold something......what do I do now? It lasted all of 3 seconds!

OH! I will be having a giveaway here very soon. Wendy over at Punky N Munky will be featuring me as her first Etsy artist on her blog. She sent questions, I have answered them and will be sending them over to her very soon....so keep an eye out for that in the next week on BOTH sites!

My mother's rings will be reviewed over at Sherri's blog, Mom Tested and Approved Reviews. I think this is a great site! I love to look at all of the goodies and get a moms approval and of what she thinks of the products! Great idea!
Have a great week! Keep creating and enjoy the Fall! Take care and thank you for stopping in!

Warmly,
Leslie
